Growing Concern For America’s Declining Birthrate

Lyman Stone, Chief Information Officer for Demographic Intelligence, is cited in a New York Times article addressing what can be done about America’s declining birthrate. The author, Shikha Dalmia, discusses a growing concern that the United States is facing a population bust. Dalmia highlights the recent Census Bureau findings that in the past decade, the U.S. population grew at the second-slowest rate since the government started counting in 1790 — and the slowest since the 1930s. Demographic Intelligence has released its August 2021 Fertility & Family Digest Newsletter. Many aspects of how Covid -19 continues to affect families and birthrates are addressed. Some of the other important issues covered are China’s official pro-natal policies as well as birth rates in many central and eastern European countries.
